Doña Ana man pleads guilty to production of child pornography

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Juan Miguel Alvarez, 46, of Doña Ana, New Mexico, pleaded guilty in federal court in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Oct. 21 to production of child pornography.

In the plea agreement, Alvarez admitted to using the application “Talkatone" to communicate with the victim and persuaded her to send nude photos of herself to him. According to a criminal complaint, Alvarez allegedly also sent nude photos of himself to the victim.

By the terms of the plea agreement, Alvarez faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison. He will remain in custody pending sentencing.

Homeland Security Investigations investigated this case with assistance from the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and the Las Cruces Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa A. Ong is prosecuting the case.
