MADISON, WIS. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Diorian Smith, 30, Madison, Wisconsin, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 96 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography. This prison term will be followed by 20 years of supervised release.
Smith came to the attention of law enforcement on Nov. 19, 2018, when the investigation revealed he was involved in a shooting on the west side of Madison. While interviewing Smith regarding the shooting, law enforcement became aware that he was involved in a sexual relationship with a minor and possessed pornographic images of her.
Smith pleaded guilty in federal court on Sept. 28, 2020, to possessing child pornography. Smith was charged and pleaded guilty in Dane County Circuit Court to 1st Degree Reckless Endangerment in connection with the shooting.
The charges against Smith were the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie S. Pfluger.
