Granholm: DOE assistant secretary nominee is 'a natural fit to lead the Department's largest applied energy office'

U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm commented on President Joe Biden's intent to nominate Jeff Marootian as assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Jeff Marootian currently serves as special assistant to Biden in the White House's presidential personnel office, according to a July 21 Department of Energy news release.

"Jeff Marootian has spent the last year and a half helping to build our team at the Department of Energy, and I am pleased that President Biden has now nominated him to serve as our new assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy," Granholm said in the release. "Throughout his impressive career in public service, Jeff has directed big teams executing challenging missions, making him a natural fit to lead the Department's largest applied energy office. His experience developing and implementing sustainable transportation policy at the federal and local level will be particularly invaluable in our ongoing effort to decarbonize America’s transportation sector and meet our bold clean energy goals."

Marootian previously worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he was assistant secretary for administration from 2015 to 2017 and as White House liaison from 2013 to 2015, the release reported. While at DOT, Marootian also advised former Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and facilitated with federal transportation regulatory agencies heads to promote then President Barack Obama's transportation agenda.

"Jeff Marootian has spent the last 1.5 yrs helping build our team at @ENERGY & I'm pleased @POTUS nominated him to serve as our new assistant secretary for @EEREGOV," Granholm said in a July 21 post on Twitter. "His experience w/ sustainable transportation policy will be particularly invaluable to us."
