WASHINGTON, D.C., January 5, 2011 - House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement after the National Oil Spill Commission released one chapter of its final report on the Deepwater Horizon tragedy and subsequent oil spill:

“This chapter of the National Oil Spill Commission’s final report provides initial insight into a very complicated and terrible tragedy. However, I’m anxious to view the report in its entirety, before jumping to premature conclusions, so that Congress can properly address the preventable elements of this disaster and ensure U.S. offshore drilling is the safest in the world."

The Commission is set to release the full report on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. To view the chapter released today visit www.OilSpillCommission.gov.
