Chairman Hastings: 30 Days to Review Final Hydro-Fracking Rule is Unacceptable

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Natural Resources on May 24, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 24, 2013 - Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement today calling on the Obama Administration to allow more time to review and comment on its final rule on hydraulic fracturing.

“Since the Obama Administration has now released its final proposed rule on hydraulic fracturing, the continued inclusion of a 30 day timetable to review this 171 page rule is unacceptable. I expect the Administration to grant at least 120 days to review this rule as requested by myself and Mr. Markey and I look forward to the Secretary’s response," said Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (WA-04).

On May 21, 2013, Chairman Hastings and Ranking Member Markey (MA-05) sent a letter to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell calling for a 120 day comment period on this new rule. Click to view the letter.
