Obama Administration’s Midnight Flaring Rule Harms Children, Must be Reversed

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Natural Resources on Nov. 15, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the Bureau of Land Management released the finalized methane and waste prevention rule on federal and tribal lands. Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT) released the following statement:

“The Obama administration is once again inserting itself on an issue where they have absolutely no statutory authority. This harmful regulation will be gutted by the courts unless we get to it first.

“This administration still doesn't get that natural gas is a commodity. There is an economic incentive to sell it for profit-not waste it. Affordable, domestically produced gas has returned a manufacturing base to our shores, reduced emissions and led to greater revenue streams for the Treasury and state education budgets. This policy, alternatively, crushes industry innovation, drives away manufacturing and harms children.

“In the waning days of this administration, the President is doing everything in his power to solidify his misguided legacy and dismantle our nation’s position as the global leader in energy production. I look forward to reversing this damaging regulation."
