The town of Douglas, Mass., will receive a $3.3 million grant to update its sewer and water systems, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced.
The Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration awarded the grant funded by the American Rescue Plan to promote economic growth, according to a July 27 news release.
“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan offers direct relief to American communities as they work to build a better America for the future,” Raimondo said, according to the release. “This EDA investment will help Douglas build a stronger, more robust local economy.”
The EDA’s role supports community-led economic development strategies to bolster COVID-19 recovery and response efforts, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said, the release reported. She said the EDA was pleased to offer aid to Douglas in improving its infrastructure needed by businesses to promote growth.
“This $3.3 million grant from the EDA is great news for Douglas, and I’m grateful for the federal, state and local partnership that secured it,” U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said. “This funding from the American Rescue Plan will generate hundreds of new jobs, upgrade essential water and sewer infrastructure and help promote economic development in the region.”
