Bureau of Reclamation Acting Commissioner William Rinne today announced the appointment of Brenda W. Burman of Washington, DC, as Reclamation's Deputy Commissioner for External and Intergovernmental Affairs.

In this position, Burman oversees Reclamation's Congressional and Legislative Affairs and Public Affairs activities. She is also the executive responsible for Reclamation's national relationships with federal, state and local governments, as well as citizen and other nongovernmental groups. She joined the Bush Administration in 2005 at the Department of the Interior as Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science.

"While we will miss Brenda's expertise and counsel in my office, her experiences in the Water and Science hallway, on Capitol Hill, and in the private sector will enhance and strengthen Reclamation's leadership team," said Mark Limbaugh, Assistant Secretary for Water and Science.

"Brenda brings a breadth of experience to this important position and we look forward to the energy and skills she will bring to building and maintaining relationships with our stakeholders, with Capitol Hill, and with the public for the Bureau of Reclamation," said Rinne. "I am delighted she has accepted this new challenge and am pleased to have her as part of our leadership team."

Burman graduated from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio and earned her J.D. from the University of Arizona, College of Law. She resides in Washington, DC.
