The Bureau of Reclamation has released three Final Environmental Assessments and Findings of No Significant Impact for the construction of new wells in the San Joaquin Valley.
Reclamation will provide funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the construction of the new wells in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced and Fresno counties. The new wells, located in three areas, will supplement water districts' supplies in years when surface water allocation is constrained.
* In the upper Delta-Mendota Canal area of the Central Valley Project (CVP), Reclamation will provide funding for the construction of up to 32 new wells. One new well will be constructed within the Byron-Bethany Irrigation District, up to 10 new wells will be constructed within the West Stanislaus Irrigation District, and up to 21 new wells will be constructed within the Del Puerto Water District. * Reclamation will provide funding for the construction of up to four new wells within the San Luis Water District area of the CVP. The associated documents are available online.
* On the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, Reclamation will provide funding for up to seven new wells in three water districts. Two new wells will be constructed in the Tranquility Irrigation District, one new well will be constructed in the Fresno Slough Water District, and up to four new wells will be constructed in the James Irrigation District.
