CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released final environmental documents for the Carson River Diversion Dam and Derby Diversion Dam Tender Houses Demolition and Removal Project, located in the Newlands Project in western Nevada.
The project includes the demolition and removal of the two vacant dam tender houses and all of their associated structures, filling any resulting excavation sites (e.g., from septic tank removal), and general site cleanup. The dam tender houses were built in 1910 (Carson) and 1982-1983 (Derby) to provide on-site housing for operators of the diversion dams associated with the Newlands Project.
The Truckee-Carson Irrigation District operates the Carson River and Derby Diversion Dams under a Reclamation contract. These houses are no longer needed for Newlands Project purposes, and this project will eliminate future safety, security and maintenance issues for Reclamation and the District.
The final Environmental Assessment and related documents are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=20845. If you encounter problems accessing the documents, please call 916-978-5100 (TTY 800-877-8339) or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
