The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Nov. 2, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

SONORA, Calif. - On Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, the Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region, Central California Area Office, will waive day use fees at New Melones Lake for all visitors in honor of the men and women of the U.S. military who have given so much for our country.

Park fees that will not be waived include Expanded Amenity Fees including boat launching, camping, camp visitor and dump station fees.

The New Melones Visitor Center and Museum is located on Highway 49, between the towns of Sonora and Angels Camp, just a quarter-mile south of the Highway 49 Stevenot Stanislaus River Bridge at 6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370.

The Visitor Center and Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as staffing allows, and closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to Veterans Day, day use fees are also waived at New Melones Lake on National Public Lands Day in September each year.

Under President Obama’s Every Kid in a Park initiative, from Sept. 1, 2015, through Aug. 31, 2016, every fourth grader across the country is being issued a special pass allowing them and up to four accompanying adults in one non-commercial vehicle free day use at their federal parks! New Melones is thrilled to participate in this initiative, and Park Rangers will be ready to assist students with the process.
