CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review a Draft Environmental Assessment evaluating the authorization of the continued discharge and conveyance of stormwater from Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon in facilities that are part of Reclamation’s Newlands Project.
The authorization requires a determination by Reclamation that proposed conveyances would not interfere with Reclamation’s use of its facilities and easements. The stormwater discharge analyzed in the EA originates as rain and snowmelt within NAS Fallon’s main base and housing areas. Stormwater is routed through multiple storm drains on the base, which discharge into Newlands Project drainage facilities. The facilities then discharge the stormwater into wetlands at Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge. Public comments will help identify any potential environmental issues, concerns and alternatives that should be addressed in the EA.
The Draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=23478. If you encounter problems accessing the document, please call 916-978-5100 (TTY 800-877-8339) or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
The Draft EA is also available for public review at the Churchill County Library, 553 South Maine Street, Fallon, NV 89406.
