Hungry Horse Dam Powerplant modernization work—traffic delays expected

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on July 27, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

HUNGRY HORSE, Mont. - The Bureau of Reclamation is conducting an inspection of a fixed wheel gate at Hungry Horse Dam Aug. 2-13, 2021. The public may experience potential traffic delays during that time. Hungry Horse Dam is located off Highway 2 in Hungry Horse, Mont.

“August is typically a busy month for the visitor center and surrounding area," said Hungry Horse Field Manager Bill Dykes. “Travelers will experience some traffic delays while crews work at the dam. Please allow for more time when planning your travel routes."

Notification signals and signs will be at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and NF 895 to alert motorists to expect delays across the dam. Traffic delays may be up to 30 minutes between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and up to one hour between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. MDT. Vehicles towing trailers or recreational vehicles may experience longer wait periods.

The scheduled work follows a recent contract awarded to BCI Construction USA, Inc., to conduct an inspection of a fixed wheel gate. This work is a component of the May 2017 Hungry Horse Dam modernization project management plan. Two mobile cranes will be on site and equipment will be staged in the parking lot on the left abutment. Only one lane of traffic at a time will be available for use. Traffic signs and flaggers will safely direct traffic past the construction site.
