The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the selection of three organizations from Kansas and Missouri to receive money for initiatives through the Environmental Education Grants Program.
The South Central Ozark Council of Governments, the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education and the Kansas City Community Gardens were among 34 organizations across the nation chosen to receive financing through the EE Grants Program, according to an Aug. 12 EPA news release.
“When we equip communities with the right tools to raise awareness and advance environmental education, it benefits everybody,” EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan said in the release. “This funding will empower students and teachers in schools and support community members in underserved and overburdened areas as we work together to tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice and deliver on our mission of protecting human health and the environment for all.”
The EPA has distributed between $2 million and $3.5 million in EE grant funding every year since 1992, totaling more than $88.3 million dispersed among more than 3,890 projects. The program typically supports projects that design, demonstrate or disseminate environmental education practices, methods or techniques.
