A news release issued by the Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday, Aug. 16, incorrectly reported the total capture and release numbers for wild horses in the gather of excess horses and burros from the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area.
The BLM captured 2,111 wild horses and plans to remove from the range 1,996 wild horses. All 339 burros captured will be removed from the range. The capture and release numbers were changed from original plans when the Eagle Lake Field Office received BLM headquarters approval to increase the capture and removal numbers.
The Bureau will conduct an aerial population count in the coming weeks to confirm the wild horse and burro populations remaining on the range. The BLM’s appropriate management level for the Twin Peaks HMA is 448-758 wild horses and 72-116 wild burros.
