Leader Rodgers Statement on CDC and Rebuilding Trust

Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement regarding the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizing the need to rebuild trust with the American people.

“Trust in public health has been broken by the Biden administration’s authoritarian actions to mandate vaccines, force masks on children, collude with teachers unions to keep schools closed, and urge Big Tech to shut down free speech. There is a lot of work to do to restore this trust, and I’m glad the CDC is recognizing this need for change. The CDC needs to fully take responsibility for how it strayed from its mission in the first place. This should not lead to the CDC asking for more authority.

“If the Biden administration is serious about restoring trust, public health agencies must be transparent and accountable to the American people. A lot of questions remain unanswered, including those around the flawed studies and mischaracterization of data the CDC repeatedly used to justify school closures and mask mandates on children. I urge the CDC to work with the People’s House on the reforms and guardrails needed to ensure the agency gets back to its core mission and mistakes like this never happen again.”
