Deputy Secretary of Commerce announced the intent to hold an economic dialogue in Washington, D.C., between the Department of Commerce and the government of Puerto Rico in the fall.

Graves said he was honored to serve as the economic growth coordinator for Puerto Rico as part of the Biden administration’s commitment to its growth and prosperity, according to an Aug. 15 news release.

“The governor and I just had a great meeting, where we discussed the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to helping Puerto Rico prosper,” Graves said in the release. “The island’s recovery and renewal are a priority for the administration.”

He said the dialogue will help Puerto Rico and the federal government align on shared policy priorities to benefit all Puerto Rican communities, given unprecedented federal funds appropriated for the island, the release reported.

The Department of Commerce and Gov. Pedro Pierluisi spoke about a shared commitment to focus every dollar on meeting taxpayers’ needs and expectations responsibly, according to the release.

“We also discussed attracting human capital and workforce development, leveraging resources from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to develop resilient infrastructure, creating a more diversified economy by attracting new business and facilitating innovation and competition and building capacity through data-driven solutions to improve measures of economic growth,” Graves said, according to the release.
