Recreation closures continue past Labor Day Weekend at USACE Vicksburg District’s Lower Sardis Lake

 The US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (USACE) announces that recreation closures will continue past Labor Day Weekend for Lower Sardis Lake due to maintenance.

Work continues on the outlet channel and requires personnel to hold back water in Sardis Dam. Additional maintenance items were also identified during routine outlet channel inspections. Water levels in the lake below the dam will remain low until all work is finished.

Recreation areas at Cypress Point, Paradise Point and Main Beach will remain closed during Labor Day Weekend. This closure impacts all swimming areas on the lower lake. Additional closures include both sides of the outlet channel, the outlet channel fishing pier, Oak Grove Campground boat dock, Lower Lake Boat Ramp dock and Weir Ramp Access area will also remain closed. Boating traffic on the lower lake will remain restricted to fishing only while water levels are low.
