GUNNISON, Colo. - The BLM is seeking volunteers for the National Public Land Day Event the Hartman Rocks Recreation Area near Gunnison on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. Crews will work to maintain single track trails affected by recent rains, as well as perform a general cleanup of highly used camping areas.
“Overall, our trail system at Hartman Rocks has withstood the recent rains remarkably well. However, we do have a few areas that need some attention," said Jim Lovelace, BLM recreation planner. "A fun morning of trail work will set us up for a great fall riding season."
Volunteers should come prepared with sturdy shoes, work gloves and water. The staff will meet volunteers at the Hartman Rocks base area at 9 a.m.
“National Public Lands Day is celebrated annually with volunteer projects across the nation," said Lovelace. “We appreciate the publics’ willingness to help us get important work like this completed quickly to maintain natural resources and enhance the users’ experiences."
