CANON CITY, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management will lift Stage 1 fire restrictions at 5 p.m. today on public lands managed by the Royal Gorge Field Office within El Paso, Jefferson, Park and Teller counties.
Fire managers base decisions about fire restrictions on specific moisture measurements in vegetation and other risk factors. Recent moisture in eastern Colorado has significantly lowered the fire danger, but land managers still urge the public to remain vigilant with fire.
“Lower fire danger does not mean no fire danger," said Keith Berger, BLM Royal Gorge Field Office Manager.
Eastern Colorado counties and federal agencies review fire conditions and discuss fire restrictions weekly. These agencies include El Paso, Jefferson, Park and Teller Counties; and Bureau of Land Management, United States Forest Service, United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service.
Fireworks are always prohibited on BLM, National Forest and National Park Service lands.
