The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office, announces the temporary closure of 450 acres of public lands adjacent to and north of Stead Airport in Washoe County, Nevada, due to activities related to the National Championship Air Races. This action will be taken in the interest of safety for both spectators and participants for qualifying and competition events during the Air Races on June 7 through June 10, 2017, and September 9 through Sept. 17, 2017.
Throughout both racing events, the area of public land will be patrolled by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with BLM. Any person who violates the closure may face penalties. The patrols are intended to ensure that a safety perimeter within the course area is maintained during the closure periods.
Closure restrictions do not apply to event officials, medical and rescue personnel, law enforcement, and agency personnel monitoring the events.
