(BILLINGS, Mont.) - The Bureau of Land Management’s Billings Field Office is planning to burn piles and conduct prescribed burning operations on BLM-managed land in Musselshell and Yellowstone County during the upcoming fall and winter months.
The prescribed burning will reduce hazardous fuel levels under controlled and prescriptive conditions and occur in the Rehder Creek area in Musselshell County approximately 11 miles south of Roundup. This proactive approach during fall and winter conditions will help reduce hazardous fuels, which in turn will reduce the likelihood of unplanned wildfire spreading from public lands onto private property. Piles will also burned in this area as well as the Horsethief area in Musselshell County (5 miles west of Roundup) and the Antelope Creek area in Yellowstone County (18 miles north of Pompeys Pillar).
During prescribed burning activity, visitors need to use caution accessing these areas for their safety, as well as the safety of the firefighters conducting operations. Some smoke maybe visible in the area. All prescribed and pile burning will be dependent on weather and fuels conditions that will be monitored closely by firefighters.
