WINNEMUCCA, Nev - The Bureau of Land Management has removed approximately 2,000 barrels of waste and 560 tons of contaminated slag and other material from a waste dump under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act. The waste dump, known as the Imlay Drum Site, is located two miles west of the town of Imlay, Nevada in Pershing County.
The BLM has made the determination and found it necessary to take removal actions at the Imlay Drum Site to prevent further threats posed by the materials that were illegally dumped on public lands. The BLM plans to remove all waste associated with the Site.
A closure investigation was conducted to confirm that all residual contaminants from the illegally dumped material were removed to ensure public safety and health. All barrels containing slag and any other loose hazardous materials were transported to a certified facility for hazardous waste located in Beatty, Nevada.
A “No Further Action Determination" letter was issued from Nevada Division of Environmental Protection on Dec. 13, 2017.
