(BILLINGS, Mont.) - The Bureau of Land Management’s Billings Field Office is planning prescribed burning operations on BLM-managed land in Musselshell and Yellowstone County during the upcoming spring months.
The prescribed burning will reduce hazardous fuel levels under controlled and prescriptive conditions. This proactive approach will reduce the likelihood of unplanned wildfire spreading from public lands onto private property.
Burning is scheduled for the following locations:
* The Rehder Creek area in Musselshell County located approximately 11 miles south of Roundup.
* The Horsethief area in Musselshell County located approximately 5 miles west of Roundup.
During prescribed burning activity, visitors need to use caution accessing this area for their safety, as well as the safety of the firefighters conducting operations. Some smoke maybe visible in the area. All prescribed burning will be dependent on weather and fuels conditions that will be monitored closely by firefighters.
Pompeys Pillar National Monument and the Sundance Recreation Area are scheduled to have their annual ditch burning this spring as well.
