Roseburg, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roseburg District and the U.S. Forest Service, Umpqua National Forest is inviting the community to join in celebrating the 50thanniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act at the Susan Creek Day Use Area on July 14th, 2018, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The legacy of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act continues to be a shining example of BLM working with our partners to promote multiple-use on public lands.

Activities to celebrate the Wild and Scenic River will include ranger-lead hikes, fly-casting demonstrations, boater and angler information, cross cut saw demonstrations, and exciting kids educational activities inside the U.S. Forest Service salmon tent! The first 50 people to attend will receive a free T-shirt.

The National Wild and Scenic Rivers System was created by Congress in 1968 (Public Law 90-542; 16 U.S.C. 1271 et seq.) to preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is notable for safeguarding the special character of these rivers, while also recognizing the potential for their appropriate use and development.
