(MILES CITY, Mont.) - The BLM Miles City Field Office will be conducting inventories of roads and trails on BLM-administered lands in eight counties this year to improve its database of existing routes in Garfield, McCone, Richland, Roosevelt, Dawson, Wibaux, Fallon, Prairie, Carter, Big Horn, Treasure and Rosebud counties.
BLM contractors will conduct the inventory and record route lengths, widths, existing improvements such as culverts or gravel, overall conditions and the types of uses taking place on these routes.
This inventory is the first step to complete a comprehensive travel and transportation management plan for the lands that the Miles City Field Office administers as per BLM policy. This data will also be used to produce detailed maps and to improve the placement of signage for the public’s use.
After the inventory and evaluation, the BLM will start a public planning process to complete a comprehensive travel and transportation management plan of which the public will have the opportunity to participate and contribute information prior to any decisions being made. Public scoping, comment periods and meetings will be part of the process.
Affected landowners will be contacted by the BLM in advance to inform them of the presence of these contractors. If you are a landowner and have not been contacted, or if you would like more information on the comprehensive travel and transportation management process, call Irma Nansel at (406)233-2800.
