LAS CRUCES, N.M. - During the month of August, the Bureau of Land Management will be working at the Sierra Vista Trailhead off Dripping Springs Road to better define the road and parking areas for the public. The work to be done will include adding post and cable to clearly designate the single-vehicle parking areas and camper pull outs. Access to Sierra Vista Trailhead will remain open during the work. However, BLM staff may be required to ask people to relocate their vehicles and campers temporarily to another part of the trailhead area or to a different public land location.
The BLM will bring the equipment to erect the post and cable into the area July 31, and begin the work thereafter. It is estimated it may take up to a month to complete the work.
The Sierra Vista Trailhead is open mainly for day use parking and has two areas for short-term camping. More and more, BLM staff are finding visitors parking their vehicles and campers in “no parking" spots or off the road, driving over fragile desert vegetation. With the installation of the post and cable, the BLM is confident visitors will park in the designated areas more easily and avoid damaging the resources.
