PRICE, Utah - The Green River District, in partnership with Agents of Discovery, will roll out a new interactive Agents of Discovery app this weekend as part of the second annual archaeological excavation activities in Nine Mile Canyon. Nine Mile Canyon was one of six locations chosen nationally to host this unique learning opportunity.
Agents of Discovery is a mobile educational tool that uses augmented reality, location-based “Challenges" to get people active and exploring their communities. As “Agents," youth will wind their way through Nine Mile Canyon exploring rock art, viewing granaries until they reach the Fremont pit house excavation, where they will learn about the Fremont people and the mystery of their sudden disappearance. This will be the last weekend for the public to visit the pit house during the archeological dig in Nine Mile Canyon (NMC). Visit the Fremont pit structure, tour nearby rock art sites, and listen to speakers from archaeology and historical organizations. Volunteers and staff will be available for site tours and questions.
Partners for the NMC project include, Montgomery Archaeological Consultants, Colorado Plateau Archaeological Alliance, Utah State University Eastern Prehistoric Museum, Utah Division of State History, Nine Mile Canyon Settlers Association, Nine Mile Canyon Coalition, Project Discovery Utah, Utah Rock Art Research Association, Project Archaeology, and the Utah Statewide Archaeological Society (Castle Valley Chapter).
