TUCSON, Ariz. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will reset a cattleguard grate that has become uneven along the Main Empire Ranch Road (route #6900) on Oct. 25. The maintenance work will ensure continued safe public access to the popular historic Empire Ranch and other popular recreation areas, located in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. The maintenance work is expected to take a half day to complete.
Traffic control personnel will control traffic flow on the road while repairs to the cattleguard are made. To minimize interruption to public use of the road, the project will take place during a weekday at low traffic volume times. A detour route will be in place during the work.
“This maintenance work will help ensure that the public can safely travel in and out of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area and enjoy a great recreational experience," said Tucson Field Manager Jayme Lopez."
The road is the main entry to the Empire Ranch Headquarters, located in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. The area is a popular destination for a network of recreational uses such as camping, equestrian, driving for pleasure, and wildlife viewing.
