FILLMORE, Utah - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Fillmore Field Office and the Raptor Inventory Nest Survey (RINS) are seeking volunteers to collect and manage data regarding the nesting ecology of eagles, falcons, hawks, ospreys, and owls. Interested volunteers must contact RINS and attend a training on March 12 from 12-4 p.m. at the BLM Fillmore Field Office located at: 95 East 500 North, Fillmore, UT 84631.
“The RINS citizen science program provides valuable nesting and fledgling data that is making a difference in how we manage public lands," said BLM Fillmore Field Office Assistant Manager Eric Reid. “The BLM can use this data to help balance multiple uses, such as resource development and habitat conservation."
Prior experience and scientific credentials are not required to volunteer. It is recommended that prospective volunteers bring a pair of binoculars, a GPS unit, digital camera, and have an email address. Volunteers should be willing to commit at least two field days per month from March through June to monitor an assigned area.
