FAIRBANKS - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Eastern Interior Field Office is hosting four public meetings in early April to seek input on travel and transportation in the White Mountains National Recreation Area and Steese National Conservation Area. The public is invited to stop by to review maps, discuss and identify recreation and access opportunities and learn more about being involved in this effort. Travel management planning addresses all forms of transportation, including travel by foot, skis, dogsled and bicycle, as well as the numerous forms of motorized vehicles.
“Public involvement is critical in helping us develop an effective travel network that will improve public access to public lands managed by the BLM," said Eastern Interior Field Manager Adam Carr. “Before we start travel management planning for these areas, we want to hear ideas and concerns from the public."
Meetings will be held in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Central and Fort Yukon on the following dates:

The BLM’s travel and transportation management involves coordination with the public and local partners to evaluate public access to and travel activities on BLM-managed public lands. The BLM will evaluate natural resource management needs, road and trail design and conditions, and recreation and non-recreation uses of roads and trails. In BLM’s Eastern Interior resource management plans, approved in December 2016, the agency committed to completing a transportation and travel plan for the Steese and White Mountains areas within five years.
