Canyonlands Fire Grows to 40 Acres

Canyonlands Fire Grows to 40 Acres

Current Situation: The Canyonlands Fire grew to 40 acres as of Wednesday evening. The fire slowly worked its way uphill to the west and made short runs through Gambel oak and grass understory to reach the ridge top Wednesday afternoon. The fire is burning in mixed conifer at higher elevations. Dead and down fuels are in the area.

Firefighters worked to establish communications, escape routes, and safety zones on Wednesday. Two helicopters checked the fire’s progress with water drops throughout the day. Ground crews - Two Hotshot crews and a Type 2 IA crew - will arrive on Thursday to engage the fire on the ground.

No structures are threatened.
