REDDING, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management is temporarily suspending permission for recreational target shooting on public lands managed by its Redding Field Office in Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, Butte and Siskiyou counties. This includes the popular Iron Mountain shooting area in west Redding.
The ban on recreational shooting does not apply to hunters participating in hunting seasons and areas established by the state of California.
“Because of the extraordinary fire season we are now experiencing, we have to take all steps possible to prevent accidental wildfires," said Jennifer Mata, manager of the BLM Redding Field Office. “We will again allow recreational target shooting when fire dangers ease."
The temporary shooting ban is part of an amended fire restriction order banning all use of open flame, including campfires, barbecues, portable stoves and other devices on all BLM-managed public lands in California.: https://go.usa.gov/xGKQf.
Recreation areas, including trails, managed by the Redding Field Office remain open to the public.
