KREMMLING, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Kremmling Field Office issued an emergency closure for the North Sand Hills Special Recreation Management Area and other BLM lands in close proximity to the Mullen fire. As the fire continues to spread in northwest Colorado, this closure will ensure public safety, allowing firefighters to focus on fire suppression efforts.
“The safety of our visitors, residents and firefighters is my top priority," said Kremmling Field Manager Bill Mills. “We are working closely with the U.S. Forest Service, Jackson County and the Incident Management Team, and this emergency closure will help ensure the safety of everyone involved."
The Mullen fire started on September 17 in the Medicine Bow National Forest and has burned from Wyoming into Colorado. The Mullen fire is currently at 127,503 acres and burning in dense vegetation and beetle kill.
