ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The BLM is seeking public ideas and input through June 11 to create a recreation plan for managing the Campbell Tract in Anchorage to better serve its more than 400,000 annual public visitors.
The bureau intends the new plan to guide recreation management into the future by incorporating new technology while adjusting for a dramatic increase in visitors and changes in use patterns.
In addition to the recreation area providing year-round outdoor recreation and wildlife viewing opportunities in a natural setting, the 730-acre Campbell Tract administrative site supports the BLM Anchorage District Office and several other federal land management agencies. It is also home to communication sites, an airstrip, a heliport, and BLM Alaska’s Campbell Creek Science Center.
Input from affected user groups, agencies, Tribal consultations, and members of the public will be combined with known data to draft the Campbell Tract Recreation Area Management Plan (CT RAMP), a stepdown plan from the 1988 Campbell Tract Management document.
Virtual public meetings are scheduled May 24 at 2 p.m. and May 26 at 5:30 p.m. for the public to share ideas, comments, and concerns for the BLM to consider when developing the Draft CT RAMP, and those unable to attend meetings can still submit comments.
People wishing to comment are encouraged to consider points such as:
* What types of recreation activities and opportunities are suitable for Campbell Tract?
* To what extent will recreational trails be modified, enhanced, and/or expanded?
* What limitations and restrictions, if any, are needed?
