WINNEMUCCA, Nev. -The Humboldt River Field Office (HRFO) signed and issued the final Environmental Assessment for the construction of infrastructure at the Winnemucca Sand Dunes (WSD). The WSD is a popular area for mechanized recreation nine miles north of Winnemucca on Hwy 95.
The project concept was developed after the Nevada OHV Commission awarded $147,805 to Northern Nevada ATV in partnership with HRFO, for new recreation amenities and facilities at the WSD. The HRFO will put up $40,554 to cover the total cost of the project of $188,360. Construction will include interpretive signs, two shade structures, picnic tables and a dual vault toilet with exterior trash compartments.
“Partnerships like this allowed the HRFO to further develop the Winnemucca Sand Dunes Recreation Area and bring more visitors to Winnemucca," said HRFO Manager, Kathleen Rehberg.
