REDDING, Calif. - Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management plan to burn large piles of brush and small trees on public land near Magalia in Butte County, when conditions are favorable from Jan. 18 through 20.
The project in the Upper Ridge area is designed to reduce wildland fire risk in the wildland-urban interface, which is the area where homes are adjacent to wildlands. The piles will be burned in accordance with a burn plan that specifies allowable weather and fuel conditions to allow for safe and successful burning and smoke dispersion. The project area covers about 15 acres.
Smoke will be visible from Pine Ridge Elementary School, Magalia homes along Ponderosa Way and Compton Drive, and from recreational trails in the area, mainly during ignition hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Light residual smoke is expected for up to two days after the piles are burned.
