A Brazilian national wanted in his home country for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl there was arrested in Baltimore by federal agents, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has announced.
Thomas Francis Donschat, 29, was taken into custody June 23 in Rockville, Md., by deportation officers with Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore, ICE announced Sept. 8. The Federal Police of Brazil sought U.S. assistance to apprehend Donschat on an arrest warrant issued by a Brazilian court "due to his charge of rape of a vulnerable (minor female 13 years of age)," the announcement reports.
"Donschat entered the United States on an unknown date and unknown location," the report states, "without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by an immigration officer."
A tip on Donschat's whereabouts made to ICE on June 15 led to his June 23 arrest by ERO Baltimore, the announcement reports. Donschat will stay in ERO custody while awaiting conclusion of deportation proceedings, according to the report.
ERO Baltimore Field Office Director Lyle Boelens called Donschat's arrest "a significant victory for ICE ERO Baltimore and our law enforcement partners," the announcement states.
“Donschat fled justice and attempted to evade capture by hiding in the United States," Boelens said. "His arrest should serve as a reminder to individuals looking to attempt the same crime, that justice has no borders.”
