Applications are due by Nov. 22 for funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields and Land Revitalization Program that has approximately $169 million in funding.
Solicitations are being accepted for multipurpose grants, several assessment grants, Revolving Loan Fund grants and cleanup grants through the program for fiscal year 2023, a Sept. 12 news release reported. The approximately $169 million funding the program is aided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“With this funding opportunity, we will remove longstanding barriers to brownfields reuse and spur new sustainable and environmentally just redevelopment in communities across the nation,” Carlton Waterhouse, EPA deputy assistant administrator for the Office of Land and Emergency Management, said in the release. “During this grant cycle, our expanded funding will allow us to address more sites plaguing underserved areas, and in some instances, award grants of greater funding levels. In the case of our Brownfields Cleanup Grants and our Revolving Loan Fund Grants, the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding allows us to remove the matching funds requirements.”
Approximately 198 grants ranging from $500,000 to $2 million per award will be given. Approximately $104 million of the funding is available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the release said.
The Brownfields Program advances the Justice40 Initiative promoted by President Biden to address underinvestment in disadvantaged communities by providing at least 40% “of the benefits of certain government programs to underserved communities,” the release said.
