Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s pledge to “end cancer as we know it,” while also signing socialist price controls into law that will lead to fewer cures.
“America has always been the best place in the world to save lives and find the cure for cancer. Unfortunately, President Biden’s socialist price controls for prescription drugs will jeopardize this leadership and his own cancer moonshot goals. The socialist scheme he signed into law last month will increase drug costs when they launch, make America more reliant on China’s drug development and manufacturing supply chains, and lead to fewer cures. If we are to end cancer as we know it, one fewer cure or treatment is one too many.
“Republicans have plowed the hard ground with bipartisan solutions in H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act. Unlike President Biden and the Democrats’ price controls, it will ensure America leads the way in the next major medical breakthroughs to save lives and give hope to patients everywhere.”
NOTE: Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Ways and Means Committee Republican Leader Kevin Brady (R-TX) are urging the Biden administration to be completely transparent and forthright on how it plans to “execute [government price controls] and the impact those decisions will have on [seniors] access to innovative medicines.”
