Cottonwood north loop campsites to close during road construction; Nebraska Tailwaters limited access

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Gavins Point Project announced that the north loop Cottonwood campground campsites will be closed temporarily Monday through Thursday, Sept. 26 – 29, to prepare for upcoming road work. The north loop will be affected during this period, but the south loop will remain open next week. A portion of the south loop may be tentatively affected the week of Oct. 11.

“We are excited to be able to get some much-needed road repairs completed this fall before the weather gets too cold, so we are ready for next year’s recreation season,” Justin Scholl, Chief, Natural Resources, Gavins Point Project, said.  “We appreciate the public’s patience while we upgrade these areas, as some of the roads have not seen significant repairs for over 20 years.”

The Nebraska Tailwaters campground will also have limited access during this period. Traffic access to the electrical sites and boat ramp will be maintained but some of the parking spots near the boat ramp will be closed as a culvert is replaced under the parking lot. Parking will be restricted near the boat ramp Mondays through Fridays during construction. Please drive slowly and be mindful of work crews during these construction periods.

The Training Dike Day Use Area also has a boat ramp below Gavins Point Dam which the public is encouraged to use if parking becomes too congested at Tailwaters.

Please drive slowly, use caution, and be mindful of work crews during these construction periods.
