Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the bills it addressed on Sept. 29

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee handled H.R.6080, H.R.6267 bills on Sept. 29, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.R.6080 titled “To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 5420 Kavanaugh Boulevard in Little Rock, Arkansas, as the Ronald A Robinson Post Office” was received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Rep. French Hill.

Bill H.R.6267 titled “To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 15 Chestnut Street in Suffern, New York, as the Sergeant Gerald T 'Jerry' Donnellan Post Office” was received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Mondaire Jones.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
