The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 29. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement congratulating Doreen Bogdan-Martin on her successful election to lead the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

“ITU members overwhelmingly made the right choice today by electing U.S. candidate Doreen Bogdan-Martin as the first female Secretary-General of the ITU. This is a huge moment for American tech leadership and the future of a free and open internet across the globe.

“I am confident that in this role Doreen will lead the agency in a way that ensures values like openness, transparency, and connectivity for all are upheld around the world."

NOTE: In May, Energy and Commerce bipartisan leaders sent a letter to President Biden in support of Doreen Bogdan-Martin’s nomination to be Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations (UN).
