U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture Chairwoman Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., said the country has made great strides in reducing hunger and food insecurity, but there's more work to be done.
Stabenow released her statement ahead of the panel discussion during the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health Sept. 28.
"As long as we have hunger and food insecurity in America, we have work to do, and as chairwoman, I'm confident that the strong anti-hunger and nutrition framework we've built can help to tackle it," Stabenow said in her statement. "We've put policies in place that take big steps to strengthen the food safety net, incentivize purchases of healthy fruits and vegetables and provide more resources for food banks and other organizations to address hunger and nutrition issues in their communities.
She noted the conference and the White House's National Strategy will help take the country even further toward the shared goal of ending hunger and building a healthier country, according to the statement.
Stabenow's address at the conference was part of a panel with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra; House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn.; and New York Mayor Eric Adams, who also spoke at the conference, according to the release with Stabenow's statement.
The panel was held 2 p.m. Sept. 29 and can be watched at YouTube.com/WhiteHouse, according to the statement. Stabenow also presented a fact sheet summarizing the Committee's efforts on nutrition and anti-hunger issues in recent years in connection with the White House Conference.
