WEST GLACIER, MONT. - Rangers in Glacier National Park responded today to an accident in which a 26-year old male visitor was injured after falling from a horse. The victim, Sam Scoufos, was part of a group of riders on the Piegan Pass Horse Trail in the Many Glacier area with park concessioner, Mule Shoe Outfitters.
After being stabilized by park rangers, the victim was carried in a wheeled litter to the Lake Josephine boat dock. He was then taken by boat to the Swiftcurrent boat dock. Rangers next took Scoufos by boat to the Many Glacier hotel boat dock where he was transferred to Babb ambulance. The ambulance rendezvoused with the ALERT helicopter at the Many Glacier helispot and the victim was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for medical care. His injuries are believed to be non life threatening.
The cause of the fall is unknown and the incident is under investigation.
Scoufos is from Santa Rosa, California and currently lives in Australia.
