Chattahoochee River Improves Seven Boat Ramp Locations

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 14, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

“A number of locations along the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will be under construction through next spring," said Superintendent Kevin Cheri.

In late June, the Chattahoochee River NRA began a year long river access construction project to improve the boat ramps.

The nature of this project has a high level of complexity, due to fluctuation with weather and the river flow and velocity. Therefore, the schedulemay change during the course of construction. The projected schedule below represents the park staff’s best efforts to anticipate the course and sequence of this project.

Location Construction Dates

Palisades Sandy Point Step Down Ramp mid June-late July

Whitewater Creek Step Down Ramp late July-late August

Settles Bridge Step Down Ramp late August-mid October

Jones Bridge Boat Ramp mid October-late November

Johnson Ferry Boat Ramp early December-late January

Abbotts Bridge Boat Ramp late January-Mid March

Paces Mill Boat Ramp mid March-early May

Throughout the time of construction, access points will be closed to all public use and alternative points will need to be utilized for river access or egress. During construction of the Paces Mill location, alternative access will be established for public use in the same general location.

“Everything is being done to keep river access disruptions to a minimum," said Cheri. “I encourage our park visitors to contact me if they have any questions or concerns."
