Wright Brothers National Memorial is pleased to announce the loan of an original painting entitled Born of Dreams, Inspired by Freedom from Mr. Nick Nuzzi. The painting, crafted by North Carolina artist Tim Bruce, depicts the Wright Brothers surrounded by images relating to their inspirational quest to fly. Among the images found in the painting are the brothers’ Dayton, Ohio bicycle shop, a variety of their drawings, their innovative glider, the famous 1903 Wright flyer, and their rustic camp in Kitty Hawk. The Memorial, which honors their achievements and legacy, is also depicted.
Mr. Nuzzi bought the painting several years ago from an area art gallery. A local businessman, pilot, and aviation enthusiast, Nuzzi was inspired by the Wright Brothers and felt a connection with the watercolor. During the Centennial Celebration, he was licensed by the Wright family to create giclee prints of the painting. Since the Celebration, Nuzzi has endeavored to have the original hang in public view, where it could be enjoyed by and provide inspiration to all.
In June of 2006, Nuzzi loaned the painting to the National Park Service to be displayed at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, where it now hangs in the Visitor Center. "We hope that this wonderful painting will inspire visitors to be innovative and follow their dreams in the spirit of the Wright Brothers," stated Outer Banks Superintendent Mike Murray. "This is a generous loan from Mr. Nuzzi, one that adds significantly to the overall experience at the Memorial."
