Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Superintendent Dave Forney is pleased to announce that a New York State Hunter Safety Course for firearms will be held at the TustenTown Hall in Narrowsburg, NY, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., October 7 and 8, 2006. Participants will receive a New YorkState hunter safety certificate that is also valid in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This course is required for anyone age 11 or older to obtain a New York, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey hunting license.
The 10-hour course is free, but the class is limited to 50 participants. Pre-registration is required, and on a first-come-first-serve basis. To register, call Barb Perry at 570-729-7134. Participants must attend both sessions and bring pencils, lunch and beverage.
Ralph Huebner, a retired National Park Service Ranger; Cliff Daniels, a National Park Service Ranger for Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River; and Robert Grimm, an avid sportsman employed with a public utility service, will teach the course. Each is certified by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as a hunter safety instructor. Huebner and Daniels have conducted the hunter safety course for over 25 years.
“Providing instructors for this course is a way for the National Park Service to provide an additional service to the community," stated Forney. “It utilizes the skills of its employees and supports a traditional activity in the Upper Delaware valley."
