02Everglades National Park has a number of events going on at its COE Visitor Center just before the main park entrance in Homestead on Saturday Feb. 24, 2007.

As part of the “Artist in Residence" program in Everglades National Park, the current resident artists, Mark Goodenough, who specializes in custom metal forming and sculptural fabrication and Ailyn Holey, who returns to Everglades National Park with her intense and delightful charcoal creations, will be present at an Artists Reception to showcase their artwork this Saturday from 2pm - 4pm in the Presentation Room at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center.

Earlier in the day the Native Plant Society will host an open house from 9am - 1pm outside the Coe Visitor Center. Plant Society volunteers will have a table to discuss native South Florida plants and will provide tours of the plantings surrounding the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center.

Finally, former Artist-In-Residence-In-Everglades, Judith Greavu will be conducting an interactive sculpture event next to the Royal Palm Visitor Center from 11:30am - 2:30 pm. Visitors will be invited to create alligator scutes to add to her 9' alligator sculpture she created as a result of her residency.

Examples of Goodenough’s artwork can be found at http://www.markgoodenough.com/ and Holey’s at http://ailynhoey.com/catalog/default.php
