Herbert Hoover National Historic Site seeks writers, composers, and visual and performing artists for the park’s 2008 Artist-in-Residence program. The Artist-in-Residence program is open to all professional American artists whose work can be inspired by the history and beauty of Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. The park offers two residencies each of two to four weeks from May 1 through October 31.
Herbert Hoover National Historic Site is a National Park unit in West Branch, Iowa. It commemorates the life and achievements of the 31st. The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum is within the park, along with an 81-acre tallgrass prairie. Historic downtown West Branch is adjacent to the park.
The 2007 Artist-in-Residence program featured painters Diane Blair Kunzler and Billie Davids. Each artist donated artwork created during their residencies this summer. Ms. Kunzler’s pastel of the Herbert Hoover Birthplace Cottage and its view of the presidential gravesite and Mrs. Davids’ portrait of former first lady Lou Henry Hoover are on display at the Visitor Center along with works from past Artists-in-Residence.
